Meet the dedicated staff and volunteers who help save thousands of animals on the series premiere of Give Me Shelter. Pet Helpers, a non-profit animal shelter based in Charleston, SC, works day and night to help keep animals safe. From disturbing situations to positive outcomes, follow the daily life of a shelter that helps create a better community and serves as a powerful reminder of why giving back is important.
Premiering tonight at 7/6c on Nat Geo WILD, Give Me Shelter follows the staff as they rescue 23 puppies from an upstate shelter before they are euthanized. The staff works quickly to medically assess each puppy so that they can be put up for adoption. Since Pet Helpers is a limited admission shelter, they are faced with the challenge to find each puppy a home or they won’t be able to accept any more animals.
Also seen on tonight’s episode is the story of Anna, a sweet dachshund mix, who was surrendered by her owners due to a broken leg. Dr. Love, the shelter’s vet, must decide whether her leg can be fixed or if amputation is the only option. Will her quality of life be better without her leg? Find out what Dr. Love decides on tonight’s episode.
Finally, meet Jake on the series premiere of Give Me Shelter. Jake is an older dog that was surrendered to Pet Helpers after his owner passed away. Due to his age and large size, Jake’s chances of being adopted are drastically lower than the other dogs. A huge setback occurs when the staff notices a chronic injury in Jake’s leg. Will the team be able to find Jake a loving home even with his difficult circumstances?
A new challenge presents itself every day at Pet Helpers. While one animal goes into surgery, another is finding a loving home. The daily contrast between difficult circumstance and positive resolutions motivate the staff to come back to work every day and help save thousands of lives.
