On week 13 of the North Atlantic Bluefin tuna season, the number one position is on the line with only three weeks left to fish, and every Gloucester captain is desperate to stack the deck to earn some final paychecks before the season closes.
With the end in sight, it’s the closest race in Wicked Tuna history. With a race this close, every fish counts. It was a huge week for the Hard Merchandise, and the three fish that Marciano landed propelled him from 3rd place to first place, knocking last season’s top-earning captain Dave Carraro of FV-Tuna.com off of his place atop the leaderboard. Dave Carraro’s treatment of other boats in the fleet has not earned him any friends this season, and he is a moving target for the rest of the fleet.
Though Marciano’s first concern is providing for his family of five, he is also aware that he is in striking distance of a first place finish, and he and his nephew first mate Jay Muenzner are determined to deliver.
Relive the moment the Hard Merchandise makes an amazing comeback late in the game with the Catch of the Week:
No one wants to beat Dave more than current third place holder Captain TJ Ott, of Hot Tuna. Up until last week, TJ was one of Dave’s most valuable allies, but when Dave lied to TJ after catching three fish on the spot that TJ recommended to him, it fractured a friendship beyond repair. Now TJ and his crew have one agenda for the rest of the season -‐ to outfish the Dot Com. But can they pull it off?
Captain Tyler McLaughlin, of the fourth placed Pin Wheel, is determined to reclaim the number one spot he held at the start of the season.
Captain Paul Hebert, of Kelly Ann, has had a nightmare season. He and his crew have caught only four tuna over the past three months of fishing and they are trailing far behind the rest of the boats, who have tripled their earnings. Paul, who has struggled to prove himself as a captain since stepping up from first mate to skipper last year, is desperate to salvage their season and make some final paychecks before the season closes.
With the clock ticking, the Gloucester fishermen battle for the last few paychecks of the season. And with one of the closest races for bluefin dashing towards the finish, will a new front runner emerge?
