Who’s the Villain? Dave vs. Paul

On Wicked Tuna: Mutiny at Sea it’s a tale of two boats with the same problem: keeping a good deckhand. On the Tuna.Com, Captain Dave struggles with Paul, his talented but temperamental first mate. On the struggling Bounty Hunter, Captain Bill’s wife and best deckhand Donna and Scott, his first mate both have to return jobs on land.  As a result, three different deckhands are put on trial to become Bill’s newest crew member.  Tuna.Com makes the long trip to Georges Bank, but the tuna aren’t biting and the tensions are rising. Bad luck comes in threes for Captain Ralph and the Odysea. The crew endures broken rods, nasty sharks, and nastier dragger boats without giving up their hope of finding the elusive bluefin. As the tumultuous week comes to a close, a shocking personnel change will rock two boats in the Gloucester tuna fleet.

In this installment of Who’s the Villain? Tuna.Com Captain Dave and First Mate Paul have a flare up of their own. Who do you think is the villain? Vote now!

We like Paul, he’s hilarious, and a hard worker. We’re not sure why the Bounty Hunter Captain is blaming no fish on Paul. Didn’t they have an unsuccessful season before he joined the crew? One run and it’s all Paul’s fault? We hope he finds a better boat and crew to be with.

Of all the reality fishing shows I have over the years the Tuna fishermen share the ugliest character thriving on greed and lies. It is a wonder how these people have lasted so long. The Capt of Bounty Hunter is one of the worse. He simply can not acccept the fact that others are more successful than he is. Of course I ahve not seen him leave the dock until daylight while the other boats are out to sea and set up. Then the weasel tries to find out where they went so he could follow them. What an Azzhole

Poor Captain Bill, the way he acts would leave you to believe he has just started tuna fishing, not a twenty or thirty year veteran like he supposedly is. Good point made by prior poster, look at when Bill gets started, only time he was out early was first day with Paul. Hard work, luck, gotta put in the time and effort. Get off the radio, get off the binoculars, get to chumming and working the lines Bill. You have just been getting outworked and some unlucky. Hard work will help make good luck. Get out of bed and get on the water at daylight. Paul appears to be a hard worker, get out there early, stay late, work your butt off and your crews butts off and save your livelihood. Wanna radio and binocular fish and try to take the easy way out, give it up.

buddy you need to realize that you have to get your own boat.

tuna.com has been great to you, you should apologize for being an ungrateful ass and let it go.

the problem is not tuna.com, its you not being your own boss.

please buy yourself a boat before the next season and make me your deck hand for a week.

we can piss and moan because the fish are not biting.

    lets name the boat “screwu.com”.

if you play dominos, you would fit in great at my job.

    give’em hell paul.

Billy, you need to stop worrying about Tuna.com, try fishing your own boat and stop blaming everyone else. All Dave is doing is minding his own business (and catching big tuna) . Try using your own skills if you have any and fish. The way it looks it’s as if all you do is follow Dave and complain when you don’t catch fish. Oh yea, you might try leaving the dock before noon, get off the radio and the binos, frigging GOOGAN!,,,

It’s clear there is a division in income and education between the captains and the first mates in most cases. Sometimes the mates act like they don’t have the sense
God gave a goose, but they are honest and hard working schlubs who want their Captains to be successful because of a sense of pride, and it’s also money in their households, as well. Let’s be honest. Paul is a nice guy, but imagine yourself frustrated while trapped on a small boat going over your finances in your head, keeping your mind on the tasks at hand, and hearing that non stop yammering for ten years. How about being Captain and worrying about the afore mentioned items among others, and having Pirate acting out three stooges skits for real with your tackle and equipment. I agree with the others. Paul should get his own ship, but realistically who would risk the loan after an interview? He will have to inherit his ship. God bless these guys for the way they fish. It’s one heck of a lot more sporting than the Pacific round-ups they do with nets and feeding pens. I only hope they can keep their livelyhood, and not have it fished out like the Cod. Really enjoy the show. One more thing…dot.com is the next generation. He has a smart way of fishing, and he now has a smart first mate he can groom to captain after he retires to being an owner who takes his cut from one or more ships. Dave is on the future like he’s on the tuna!

Dave is the king. All the other Captain’s are jealous. Dave works harder, and his success just drives them crazy. Paul needs to know his place, which is, employee.

Marciano is a good guy.I think everyone wants him to land the big ones.As for.com the Capt. Is a boring d-bag. Now the kid is stuck fishing all day with no entertainment from Paul. They all work hard but a good boat Capt. Tries to make the days work a little bit more enjoyable instead of wanting to jump overboard. And natgeo. Be more specific on pay for mates if no fish is caught and hours spent on the water for us that don’t know: just would like to see how much the misery is compansated….as for the people complaining about the cursing….they are fisherman for Pete sakethey don’t work in an office with your daughter they are in the middle of the ocean..Man Up!!!!

I have to say these “so called ” captains and fisherman are JOKES! Bounty Hunter captain is a loser!.. He calls himself a captain, but he continues to follow fish.com to catch fish.Even grabs tuna.com’sfirst mate Paul for “luck”??? Be a captain, and a fisherman, and fish….quit complaining and fish for yourself, you loser. If you can’t do it, sell your boat and find another job you can complain about and copy somebody else.. And tell your brother “no one owns the ocean”, you do not own any part of the ocean..nobody does… fish, find a spot… to this day, I have not seen any part of the OCEAN for sale of for any one to own… it’s life, get with it. If you can’t handle it..find another job.losers.. Hey googins can fish too, you aren’t a fisherman, so why are you complaining about googins…you fish like a googi!. Always following tuna.com to fish in his area.. go take up knitting or something like that.

    May 30, 2012, 11:50 pm

PS Billy needs to sell his boat, apply to be a first mate, or second mate on tuna.com so he can LEARN how to fish…and not being a cry baby as a so-called captain. Captains usually know what they are doing, and not depending on your fellow fishermen, following what the REAL fishermen are doing… and maybe your brother ws right, he needs to get off the boat.. become a Googin…they catch fish with no pressure..

I’m surprised that National Geographic would put on a program like wicked tuna. It’s not format of the program that opens this question. It’s that the captains act like they are about 12 years old. That reflects badly for NGW as well as other fishermen from Gloucester.

I think tuna.com Dave is a little too much of a douche, I think Ralph treated pirate like shit 🙁 I felt really bad for pirate hope he finds a boat to fish w/next season. The crew of bounty hunter were talking all kinds of smack about Paul and Paul was right they have bad attitudes and need to focus on what’s happening in their boat! Was glad to see them appreciate him a bit more when they got a couple fish…not sure if that’s the boat for him though. And I was glad to see Marciano made out pretty well! Looking forward to the next season !

Bill and the Bounty Hunter have too much Tuna.com envy. They spend way too much time wondering what Dave is going to do. They should spend more time dumping chum and get to fishing. As far as Dave and Paul…both are excellent fisherman, but they both have strong personailities. They will be back together. Paul cannot afford to fish with Bounty Hunter.

like I said before, bill, stop following tuna.com and stop crying, for Christ sakes your a grown man fish your own boat . You know what, you said it before you need to sell you boat and buy a trailer home in Florida. Your a cry baby and a true wuss. Stop while your ahead. Let the pros do there job, your not in there league. Damn GOOGAN!,, you are what you are, a GOOGAN, you are what you are GOOGAN get off the boat with your silly crew, not including Paul, he’s golden. Paul, suck it up and get back on Tunacom!!!

Dave is a “Legend in his Own Mind” The most egotistical person I have seen in Decades. Self-centered, boring and other words I won’t mention.

Paul is hard working and is out for nothing but supprting his children. I’m glad he went he got away from Dave. Billy needs to loosen up, he got a great deck hand in Paul.

This has just started running in Aus and I am really enjoying it. Having only seen the first two episodes I agree with everything said above. My favourite Mate is Paul and my favourite Captain is Dave because they both work really hard. I hope they do work together again, but I really think Paul needs his own boat.

It seems as though the fishing strategy for a few of the boats is to follow Tuna.com and get into a his backyard! Dave is a successful Tuna fisherman who has done well without following anyone else around the ocean,i think it was good for Paul to leave because now he’s going to miss the success that he had with dave,It is obvious that Captain Bill does not have the skills of Captain Dave.
Captain Ralph is too aggressive and needs to do another job poor pirate {top Bloke},Go team Marciano i would love to see these guys do so well, they dont run anybody else down they work hard and are two respectable blokes, love these two defiantly my favorite.

Love the show these guys are from my neck of the woods New England. Most of the captains seem like decent guys however Dave from Tuna.com is obnoxious and should concern himself less with what everyone else is doing and focus more on his own boat he seems to do well so what is with his relentless drive to ALWAYS be number one jealousy is bad karma Dave.

Everything that has been said is correct as to what that has been seen. Dave C. fishing style is right on, it’s a business and a new boat (payments and pay are due). As far as Paul, we’re right you need to captain your own vessel after all these years. Maybe Paul can run your boat Bill and you can manage it from the beach (no disrespect). Ralph, you maybe a hard ass on land and at sea and maybe that’s why your not getting the
quality of deckhands that your demanding. Big Dave M. sorry
about your boat and hope you still have plans to fish, I really enjoy your attitude. I’d fish for any of you.

Dave is a little man. He’s got the little people syndrome. Don’t see those guys making him 14,000 profit while he is somewhere jacking constitutes what went down. It seems like he is the catalyst to why fish were not being caught, what a douche. Sandro needs to get a better ride.

Tyler go back to where ever a bath is. Scott how much do you contribute to fuel bait ice and slip fees? For all your attitude one might think it’s all of it.

I Love this show, and the way it shows all the different personalities but most of all because it’s about catching tuna. We have to remember that these guys are out to catch a quota in a limited amount of time and the pressure is on. I think tuna.com as a complete boat is very impressive and skipper Dave is very focused and pushes Paul and the young guy in the right direction. However dave does need to respect paul, as he is an experienced and very hard working first mate. Glad to see him moving on with his own boat.
Hard merchandise are a pleasure to watch, and both guys would appear to be two of the nicest guys in the fleet. I’d gladly have a beer with either of them.
As for billy and the bounty hunter just because he has been fishing all these years he feel that the world owes him a living, just because he caught fish in the past “when fish were plentiful ” he believes his luck is against him……well that’s not the case, he’s not putting in the hours and all his moaning seems to have infected his first mate. I didn’t like the way they sat on tuna.coms mark when the caught there first fish. Pretty rude considering they didn’t hoist the Jolly Roger.
Tyler is a great fisherman but he needs to show respect for the other captains as he may need their assistance one day. He comes across as an A hole, something I was guilty of when I was his age. I thought Ralph being barred from the marina for life was unnecessary and uncalled for.
Ralph seems to be a hard worker, and when his new mate cut the tackle I agreed with Ralph that was a stupid thing to do.
What the crew don’t seem to care about is that all the expenses come out of the captains pocket. If you take fuel, boat payments, insurance, marina fees, tackle cost (which for tuna would seem to be some of the most expensive in the world along with marlin tackle) bait, food and boat maintenance which all have to be paid for before you land your first fish. This will explain why these captains are under so much stress with the added tension of a camera watching every move, and pushing for a comment that may not always be thought out properly.
Anyway in closing I’d just like to wish each of the captains and there crews good luck and safe journeys home. Keep the lines tight lads.
PS good luck to paul I’m sure you make a go of it for the remainder of the season, you will be one to watch next year.
