Welcome to the first installment of sharing what are the most watched programs on our networks with our viewers. You watch us, it seems only fair that you should know what are the most popular shows on the network. I encourage you to ask any questions about these shows, about how these shows are determined to be our most watched, or other questions you may have about our programming.
This week on National Geographic Channel, the top shows were driven by a weekend stack of Amish culture programming on the weekend. Our top three shows consisted of Amish at the Altar, Amish: Out of the Order and Amish on Break. This took us by surprise here, we love these shows, but they were repeats on the weekend, but clearly there was latent interest in learning about the Amish this weekend. Drugs, Inc: Pill Nation, the new premiere on Sunday was #4 for the week and rounding out the top 5 was our premiere of the 400 Million Dollar Emerald, also on Sunday night. This Explorer special presented a fascinating story about the Bahia Emerald, which was originally found in Brazil in 2001. All in all, this was a great week for the National Geographic Channel and we ended out the broadcast television month of January with an increase of 6% in our overall ratings from last year.
On Nat Geo Wild, Swamp Men ruled the network with 3 of the top 5 programs: Bee Bomb, Croc Swap and Newbies. Look forward to new episodes later this year! Dog Whisperer’s new episode on Saturday night, Homeboy Hounds was #3 and rounding out the top 5 was Casey Anderson’s Expedition Wild: Inside a Grizzly Attack. Wild had an incredible month as this new network continues to grow – up 17% for the month of January and one of our best months of viewership ever, so thank you and please keep watching!
