Quill Attack

Temperatures and tensions rise as summer starts at the DeYoung Family Zoo. With crowds pouring in, Bud and Carrie struggle to keep up.  Their to-do lists grow longer and longer by the minute.  And Emo, an inbred white tiger, must be neutered to protect future generations from genetic defects. Bud and Carrie struggle to prepare an operating room but it’s one interruption after another — a car show by the lion pen, a pampered potbellied pig, a dog who got in a fight with a porcupine, and a litter of fox kits that needs their help. Finally, the operating room is ready and the vet arrives. But the surgery is not without complications.

My Life is a Zoo: White Tiger Trouble premieres TONIGHT at 10P et/pt only on Nat Geo Wild!

Video Preview: A dog attacks a porcupine and gets a mouthful of painful quills. Bud and Carrie rush to its aide.

There was nowhere to post this question on the viewing of Wally by Bud. I am confused and know it’s not my business..gotta ask! Carrie has been discribed as Bud’s daughter while the relationship looks more like a marriage (pinching butts to picking her up when fooled about it being too hot to ship wally joke) Now, Bud said in the Wally clip that Carries Dad is going to put a roof on Wally’s exibit. Just to clarify, is this a Father and daughter operation or something else? I know that I would never talk to my Father in the way Carrie has but would a boyfriend or Husband. So…wussup? Just to clarify confusion.
Also, it appears that this is a relatively new operation and I really love the show! Bud worked at a job while getting this started and Carrie came into it 6yrs ago, (stated early in show) yet Carrie says we have doing this our whole lives? It’s just a little confusing and if it had not been stated and then conflicted, it wouldn’t matter at all.
I wish you all the luck and most of all God’s blessings on what is apparently a heart driven effort for animals and those that would not otherwise view them as your building. There is so much jumk on Satalite and I keep my channel on NGW! Keep up the good work as many of us look forward to watching your work for the many yrs to come! Live your dream and know you have many viewers injoying your efforts along with new arrivals!

    dutchieu,
Bud Deyoung and Carrie Krammer featured in this series are in a girlfriend/wife type relationship. Bud does have two daughters Becky and Carrie who also help out at the zoo when they can. I think perhaps you have become confused by this.
As to your second question, this is definitely not a new operation the show stated that they celebrated their 25th year as a zoo. Bud has been at the zoo since before it was a zoo and operated a small hobby game farm / wildlife rehab operation on the property. Bud’s son Brad and daughters Becky and Carrie helped with the animal care chores from the time they were very young. Bud’s GF/Wife Carrie has been helping at the zoo for over 7 years when she started coming to the zoo. She came first as a guest, than as a volunteer helper and her relationship with Bud grew from there.

I LOVE this show, not only does it show the great passion they have for the animals, it also brings attention to michigans beautiful upper peninsula, which is very much in need of exposure. We have this wonderful little zoo in the middle of nowhere, which by all accounts really shouldn’t beable to survive, but thru Bud and Carries’ dedication to their animals, it somehow does.

    Thank you Porterfield,
    You answerd my questions.

I would like to overall repeat myself in what great programming this is and I hope to watch this as they add animals for the vass of those that can locally visit. I especially love the interations between Bud and Carrie but most of all their stives to build this zoo. I don’t spak along when I say that many times, my set if usually those having to do with helping animals. Thank you again@ =)

When I said "Starting", I meant in the way of other zoo’s are built up. I love that this couple is doing it their way. I meant no offence to the work or personal questions, thank you for bearing with me because I was confused. I wish channels would dump nonscence show l and take note of the intrests of their vewers of all ages. I really want this program be our eyes as they unform and watch it grow out of those decision.

Love the show. To see this many animals in a small town it’s unreal. I’ve been to the zoo and the show reflects the attitude and friendly atmosphere of this unique little gem in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I would highly recommend paying a visit to DeYoung’s Zoo. I hope to see many more episodes of "My Life is a Zoo".

Lordy, reading my posts without my reading glasses is embarrassing!

I just want to say "YOU GO, Bud and Carrie". I am happy that the moderator now gives an acurate history about your relationships and your passions to do this! I never wish for this show to ever be replaced with another unrelated show. You have alot of supporters and I wish the Very Best for you in all you do! Would be nice to get Corporate donations for your cause instead of pigbelly writeoffs! You deserve it! God Bless you!

This show is great! I watched last year and was happy to see it’s on tis season. It demonstrates how people REALLY care about wildlife and what DEDICATION is really about. There are many lessons everyone can learn from programs like this. It’s fun, educational and inspiring. Kudos to NAT GEO! I really hope you guys decide to keep this going. Thanks! Kenny

Im from NC, moved to Dagget Mi which is only 10 minutes from Deyoung zoo. None of the zoos in NC offer the personal experience that Bud and Carrie do for their guests. If Nat Geo Wild doesnt keep going with this show, they are missing out on not only a great business but also an experience that some of us love.

Our family, and our bike group are long time visitors, to the zoo, friends of Bud, before Carrie came along, friends of Carrie’s now also, have helped out, with expantion on the wolf enclosure, and other volenteer work. We camped there when we were working, and that was such a great experience! There is no other zoo like The Deyoung Family Zoo. If you do not take the time to visit the zoo, you are missing out on a great experience. Bud, and Carrie had a pre show party the night of the first show. My family, and some friends went to the party, and raised a little money for them, and the zoo. There is no better feeling then helping out. Please do keep the show "My Life Is A Zoo" going! We love it, we love the zoo, and Bud & Carrie. We also love that Carrie did Piper’s Place to save, and find animals forever homes! There are so many more people that love the show also, that it would be a shame not to continue it, so please do more!!!!

My family and I make it a point to visit the DeYoung Family Zoo each year. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful resource so close to Green Bay. The word "zoo" doesn’t accurately describe what the place actually is. Visitors do not wander from cage to cage but instead are afforded the unique experience in observing the animals close up in their carefully crafted habitats and with Bud and/or Carrie providing education and commentary about each individual resident. They also field questions from the guests at the park. Try getting that from the 25 cent squawk-box mounted to a post at your local zoo. The passion and devotion that Bud and Carrie have is truly astounding! That being said, I implore NatGeo Wild to please continue to produce My Life is a Zoo! We even changed tv service in order to receive NatGeo Wild so we can watch My Life is a Zoo and have subsequently enjoyed the other programming the channel has to offer as well. The show has all of the components of a winning series, romance (Bud & Carrie & of course the animals), intrigue (what’s going to happen next week?), substance (education and understanding), and the list could go on and on. Again, I beg NatGeo Wild to please continue this wonderful series! May God bless the DeYoung Family Zoo and all who support it!

My family and I absolutely love and adore "My Life Is A Zoo"! We were devastated when we found out that NatGeo discontinued the show. Everyone that we have talked to that has seen the show said that they loved it. We watch the same episodes over and over on our DVR and we really want more!!! Bud and Carrie are amazing people with amazingly generous hearts and they make a very interesting and entertaining show that is like no other. This show will help the zoo and it will help us (the viewers). I used to watch NatGeo all of the time with my family and now since NatGeo cancelled "My Life Is A Zoo" we don’t watch it anymore. We want the show back please, please, please. Thank you.
