National Geographic Channel has been making explorers of us all — from the deepest depths of the ocean, to the inner workings of the brain, to inside access with the toughest law enforcement officials in the country, and to the edge of the universe.
Exactly 15 years ago this week, on January 7, 2001, National Geographic Channel officially launched in the United States, bringing a legacy of breakthroughs and innovations, heart-pounding adventures, bold conquests and extraordinary human feats to cable television. While we continue to blaze an exciting path forward, we are looking back on 15 great years with a yearlong 15th anniversary celebration.
To kick off this yearlong trip down memory lane, take a look at the first promo to ever run on air in 2001 that introduced “the new National Geographic Channel.”
That’s not all that’s coming out of the archives. We found a clip from the very first show to ever run on air. Check out this clip from National Geographic Channel’s inaugural broadcast in 2001, A Cheetah’s Story:
The birthday festivities continue all year long. We’ll be re-airing some of our best shows from the past 15 years, and we have some fun social media surprises in store for our fans, so be sure to follow us: National Geographic Channel on Facebook, @NatGeoChannel on Twitter, and @NatGeoChannel
