Legendary wildman Mick Dodge lives life by his own unique philosophy in the wilderness of Washington state. Want to live like Mick? Follow his 30-day challenge to get in tune with the nature around you. Or as Mick explains, “You have 30 days to follow your feet, so your ancient body wisdom can teach. Yoish!”
So kick off those shoes and see if you can keep up! (Missed week 2? Catch up now!)
Week Three: Recover
Objective: This week, we will incorporate “stick training” into the challenge. To get an idea of the practice, watch the Earthgym stick video and begin the practice:
Also, we will be paying attention to the water within us. Our bodies are made up of mostly water. With this in mind, notice what happens when your body feels cold/hot.
Now that you’ve opened your senses, go someplace that you’ve never been or haven’t visited in a while. Along the way, find a stick to walk with. With the stick in hand, explore the area with all your senses (using what you’ve learned in the previous weeks). This could be a very small, specific spot in your backyard, a park you’ve never been to, etc. Each day, find a new place to walk and explore for 10-20 minutes. Capture what you see and experience. Keep track of things you notice that you weren’t aware of before. Mark down any “aha” moments you have while exploring this area.
Then, notice your temperature. Train with the cold. Safely play on the edge of your comfort zone and wake up and strengthen your body’s ability to adapt to different outside temperatures/conditions and generate internal heat.
