In the span of 102 hours, one of the most riveting manhunts in American history unfolded on the streets of Boston. To accompany the all-new special Inside The Hunt For The Boston Bombers, our interactive map tracks how and where the bombings and ensuing manhunt happened, providing a necessary timeline for the frantic five days.
The interactive map follows the major events of April 15-19, using photos and maps to illustrate the hunt for the bombers. The timeline begins with the two explosions at the Boston Marathon finish line, which killed 3 people and injured an estimated 264 others.
Then, the map traces the events that finally led police to the bombers, including the murder of a MIT police officer the day images of the suspects were published, the carjacking that confirmed the suspects’ identities, and the final shootout in Watertown, culminating in the eventual capture of bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in a resident’s boat.
