Meet The Rogue Treasure Hunters Of ‘Meltdown’

A new generation of geologists are on the hunt for gold, found in the most unlikely of places. On Meltdown, gold enthusiasts search for precious metals in junk, hoping to melt them down and turn them into treasure. Get to know three of the show’s gold diggers – Diego, Dave and Rich.

Relocated to the Midwest with his army family at a young age, Diego developed an early interest in nature and photography. From the age of fourteen, when he set out to cross a frozen Lake Erie over to Canada, he’s chased adventure and pursued a love of geology, which he continued through college. His interests eventually turned to gold mining, and he went on quests through the Southwest in search of the Lost Dutchman’s Gold, a legendary treasure. He currently lives in Hollywood, and spends his days looking for gold in other creative ways.

Dave is a self-taught chemist and gold expert, passionate about precious metals since the first time he went gold panning at the age of 11. Gold is his obsession, hobby and source of extra income, from busting fraudulent online gold sellers to creating his own website to educate online buyers and sell genuine gold nuggets. For 39 years Dave has been teaching himself about gold, through trial and error and endless research, and doesn’t plan on stopping soon.

Originally from truTV’s Hardcore Pawn, Rich is the newest member of Nat Geo’s Meltdown cast with a pawn shop past and a heart of gold. Growing up in South Detroit, Rich had dreams of being a rock star – and still plays drums in bands now and then – and supported himself working in a Detroit pawn shop for 25 years until 2012. Rich’s dream is to adopt a fusion approach to work and someday operate a business incorporating his love of music and precious metals.

I would be thankful if you could tell me the name of the pistol that detects the purity of the precious metals.
